few things to consider:
1) Do you need an i7? Maybe take the money you'd save from getting an i5 and put it into getting a GTX 1070, you'll get more from it
2) Consider an SSD, the speed difference is big
3) You never said how much RAM but I'm assuming 8GB

Utter rubbish, do not do this. The FX8350 is beaten by an i3 6100 in most games. Its a 4-5 year old weak CPU that uses an end of life socket and end of life RAM so giving no decent upgrade path.

This might be a bit of an exaggeration but the sentiment is right. The 8350 is weak in single core performance compared to Intel's offerings, and games don't utilise multicore CPUs well at all.

this guy is out of his mind. they are definitely NOT the same performance, at all. not even close these days. i rate that advice a 0.1, only because an SSD is a good suggestion.

AMD FX 8350 8-Core 4.0GHz Processor Black Edition forgot to say black edition

That doesn't help. At all.

even so, still not even close to the performance of a 6700k

No exaggeration, plenty of reviews show it. Here's an example http://www.techspot.com/review/1089-fallout-4-benchmarks/page5.html

Forget an i7-6700k, it's not close to an i5-6600k. Which is what I'd advise he gets as the i7 is a waste of money for gaming.

not totally a waste. but yes the 6600k blows the pants off any 8350 even if it was clocked at 5.0ghz+.

I agree an i7 is over the top to pair with a 1060 but paired with a GTX 1080 and a 1080p/1440p 144Hz monitor the i7 can bring meaningful gains. An example http://www.gamersnexus.net/game-bench/2182-fallout-4-cpu-benchmark-huge-performance-difference

If we keep it within the build range posted, we would be discussing a GTX 1070 most likely gaming at 1080p considering his choice of a GTX 1060. An i7 will not provide any meaningful benefits. I have an i7-4790k myself and game at 4k, unless it is a CPU intense game and can utilise hyper threading; it's a bit of a waste of £100

i hate to argue but it's not really over the top to pair with it. a year ago people would be saying an i7 and a gtx 970/980 is the perfect pairing. and the 1060 is pretty much in between as far as gaming performance.

Not arguing, healthy discussion. From all the benchmarks Ive seen a i5 6600k without OC can hold 60fps in all games except BF1. Only when looking for high fps to match with a high Hz monitor does the i7 really show a material gain, I wouldn't go i5 for high fps gaming these days.

AMD 8350 is a very weak CPU and it's Intel equal is i3-6100.
SSD is good and I suggest you get an SSD.
1060 with i7-6700k is not a good pair. Better to pair an i3-6100 with a 1080 than what you have right now.
Best to get 6600k with a 1070, if you can reach that price.
