Hi my USB has been having some issues, it has split in to an unallocated partition and then a raw partition and I cannot fix it.

Please see attached picture, I do not care for any data on the usb but I am unable to reset or format it using diskpart. Any help is much appreciated.

Backup your data, go to disk management in windows(i think the ss is shot from there? ) and erase the partition and try to reformat the whole usb.
Else backup your data use LInux live cd and use the fdisk command! Read how it works online. It will work.

Hi there Shoween,

I would agree with SkyNetRising. It would be nice to provide some more information on what happens when you try to reformat it.

What are the options that you get when you right click on the partitions?

Keep in mind that the flash drive could have failed.

Cheers,
D_Know_WD :)

This is what happens when I try to clean the disk or partition with Diskpart: http://pastebin.com/VujCjtxA
When I right click on the USB in disk management I am unable to select anything

When I try to open the usb it prompts me to format the disk, and if I try to format it I get stopped with an error that the disk is write protected.

I have tried running the "DISKPART> attributes disk clear readonly" command and it says that it worked successfully but it is still write protected and I cannot format it still.

1st - clean command works on entire disk. You can't use it on volume.
2nd - try this:

  • select disk 3
    list partition
    select partition 1
    delete partition
    create partition primary
But I have to agree with @D_Know_WD - I/O device error means device failure.

The usb was working fine until I tried to use windows media creation tool on it, then the installation failed and the usb died

I got the same error when trying to delete the partition
