I'm about to upgrade my HTPC to a more gaming capable rig and before I make too many purchases I thought I would ask you all to weigh in on the choices I've made. I feel pretty good about it all and the list checks out on pcpartpicker, but I've always got great advice from people on here. Could you guys take a look and let me know what you think? I already have the case, motherboard and ss drive. I also have 4 WD green drives for all my movies. Thanks everyone.

Is there any budget constraint? What kind of usage do you expect to have?

If this is simply for gaming/media then I would recommend you drop CPU down to an i5-6600k as the extra 100$ will not net you noticeable return on your investment. i7 would have helped if you were doing heavy video/graphics editing and/or Engineering/Math CAD software.

I think CPU cooler/MB/RAM/SSD/GPU and PSU are all good.

No hard ceiling on budget. I was thinking the i7 as it may future proof me a little more. Also, and maybe I'm mistaken on this, but aren't some games like the unity based kerbal space program, more cpu dependant? I also do a fair amount of transcoding, as I stream my movies through Plex to other devices. For these reasons, does it make sense or would the i5 still be a better choice?

Sorry to revive this, but I'm now questioning my memory choice. I was going for the Corsair Vengeance LPX series because it's low profile and should fit under my cpu cooler. However, I don't see this particular one on the supported memory list for my motherboard. Also, I'm not very clear on memory speed. Is there a sweet spot for this setup? I will probably do some minor overclocking, but nothing crazy. Would something closer to 2133MHz be a better choice?
