I am going to re-install Windows 7 as I would like to completely delete old drivers that were there due to an old motherboard. I backed up all my information from the hard drive with windows existing on it, but I'm unsure that when I restore all this information and files that it will restore the old drivers? I have been told that re-installing windows is the best way to completely remove old drivers but I do not know that If I back up the hard drive with them on, it will restore them again?

what is the method used for backing up your files ecc ecc
windows backup ?
or simply copying files ?
or another software ?

if you have stored your personal files in another hd drive ( external ) ... you can copy the files after re-installing the win 7
Desktop folder + documents folder for examples ...

I used Windows back up. I put it onto another HDD internal, as it was only temporary. Can I now pick and choose what stuff I want to put back onto the Windows HDD with the back up or do I have to restore it all?

Hi

Backup then restore the hard drive or partitions does not give a fresh clean windows installation

You need to boot off a Windows DVD or USB and re install Windows to C:
then re install programs from their disks

you can then restore data such as MS Office files (Word, Excel, Outlook etc)

Having backed up your drive to USB or over network you can experiment with the
Restore program to see how it works.
Once you know how to use it to restore only the files you want you can go ahead and re install Windows to C:

Durring start of Windows installation process take advanced option to Format C: and do a clean install
Don't do a repair installation which will use more space on C:

I have done a clean install of windows as I formatted the hard drive then did the windows install. I am now re-downloading all software and drivers but as I backed up everything to another HDD, whats the best way to just get the word documents and files rather than restoring everything which I do not want to do?
