Ready for an upgrade.

So, this is a fairly long story but a while ago i wanted to build my first PC but could not afford it. I ended up buying an AMD A8-5500, a cheap FM2 motherboard, and a 500 gig HDD off of one of my coworkers for 40 bucks, (I thought it was a great deal.) Well, I bought a 500 watt psu, and 8 gigs of DDr3 memory. This system has served great gaming purpose for almost a year. It does fairly well, but I am ready for an upgrade. I am only 14 and only work on weekends, so I only make roughly 120 bucks a week. I was gonna save for a couple months and get an R9 380, a new mobo, and a sky lake i5. I think I have changed my mind in order to save money, and time. I think that I am going to get an Athlon x4 760k, so I do not have to upgrade my mobo and it will save me 150 dollars on its own. That is nearly 200 bucks. Would it be reasonable to get the x4 760k and upgrade in 6 months or so? Or should I alternatively just wait the extra time now. I feel as if the 760k will perform just fine in unison with the 380, but hey, I may be wrong. I would like to play hard to run games like, witcher 3, far cry 4, and GTA 5, but I do not want to waste money on extra performance that I DO NOT need. My friends are currently making fun of me for this exact topic because their parents have paid for everything they have and have no respect for money, but since I pay for a lot of the LUXURY'S I have, I at least respect it a little.

But any imput on this conundrum of mine is greatly appreciated. To recap, get the 760k and upgrade a while down the road, or wait and get an i5 now.

Get an AMD FX 8350. You'll be able to tell your friends that you have 8 cores with 4GHz then they'll be sorry for what they said to you. That way you only spend $160. Also, get a r9 390 x, save up for a few weeks then you'll have 8gb of vram. The difference between 390x and 380 are huge. On GTA V ultra 1080p the average of 380 is 35fps compared to a 50 fps of the 390x

But that runs me into the same problem of having to upgrade my motherboard. The performance of the i5 is very close to the performance of the 8350 (if not slightly better), so wouldn't it be better to get an i5 4460k. Therefore I may be able to upgrade to an i7 4690k later down the road. I really do not know though. So, wouldn't the 8350 be roughly the same price in the end as an i5 4690. I just don't want to wait a month or 2 and not be happy later down the road. Will the 8350 be future-proof enough.

And about the 390x, is the extra 4 week wait? because then I have to upgrade my psu to a 650 watt. like I said, I only have a 500 watt. and the 390x requires AT LEAST 650 watts of power and maybe 750 to be safe.

For me 400 bucks on a gpu is A LOT of money.

Thanks to the both of you that replied, but I think that I will go with the option that tothergnome suggested. But in about 8 months upgrade to skylake. I will end up giving the 8350 to my little sisters at that point, I will probably get them a 950 or something so that they can have a pc of their own also. THANKS GUYS.

Well king,

Best thing for you would be to save money for something better on the cpu side including motherboard. Just don't see as wise to upgrade cpu with that board. On the other side there would be noticeable improvement if you upgrade your gpu. So right now you can go with 380 and use it with some bottleneck on the a8 5500 side and latter to buy better cpu with mb.

Best luck!

it would not run Oculus rift well[ unless the process/game used 8 cores
It would have frame drops and not get to the recommended 90 fps

Just saying that in case some random clicks on tis and buys it thinking it will run oculus

I didn't say it would run every oculus rift game smoothly. Though I did look at 3dmark and benchmarks by other websites and they all came to the conclusion that his pc would be able to 1) Play a majority of the oculus rift games 2) Play games at good settings.
Here are some benchmarks I found:
Watch Dogs at ultra 1440p average is 35fps.
Fallout 4 at ultra 1080p average is 40fps.

I probably will use my a8 5500 for a while, like Areh said, and get the gpu now. Then, upgrade to an 8350 later, maybe, I really am not sure what exactly I will end up getting for my cpu, I may just get the i5 as that will last a lot longer than the 8350 and be easier to upgrade. But that is something for 2 months in the future me to figure out.
