Indeed. I believe that this incident will alter the way in which future plants are built, much less their actual design.

It has been indeed frustrating getting the correct information from the plant owner and the Japanese government:

The Japanese are now learning the trouble of building nuclear reactors on or near fault lines, especially for a nation that is within the "Ring of Fire." I know that there options are minimal in regard of other options like coal, hydro power, etc..., but for any future plants built, there should be comprehensive geological studies conducted and design features that allow for the plants to take a major earthquake. I know the one in Fukushima was built to take a quake, but not a tsunami. Location, location, location...

Indeed. There is squat that can be done to save it. The coastline shift was monumental to say the least. Just another example of how powerful earthquakes are.
