RealMyst Easter Egg

Hello fellow Mysties!

I think I may have discovered a new easter egg in the Rime age:

Place crystals 3,4,2,6,5 from left to right on the imager (the first
four are shown in the journal upstairs). They can initially be any
color. Push the button. Now mentally number the crystals from left to
right as crystals 1,2,3,4,5. If crystal 1 is red, turquoise, or
violet, the camera pans around the age. If crystal 1 is yellow, green,
or blue you can 'zoom' in on one of three separate areas. On each of
these three areas, you can make the water level rise|fall by changing
the colors on crystal 2 and you can make the snow level expand|recede
by changing the colors on crystal 4. Make sure you press the button
after each color change to see the effect on the age.

Can you explain this further? It's been a while since I played
RealMyst, but I thought the crystals were permanently mounted on the
console. Are these numbers referring to the _shape_ of the crystals?
And if so, how do you determine which shape gets which number? I
can't remember what shape the crystals were in when I first got to the
imager room.

That's pretty cool. Up till now I've only seen the static shot of
Riven's bridge and the various RealMyst creator photos in the imager.

Does the effect actually take place? I mean, can you leave the room,
and go out and play in the deep snow? Or is it only something that
can be seen in the imager?

Did you get this by brute force, or did you translate one of Spyder's
hints?

When you first get in this room there are no crystals visible. You
have to click on the 5 surfaces for the cystals to appear.

These are the crystals you need to place from left to right:
1. the two tall crystals which form the narrow V shape (click 3X)
2. the two shorter crystals which form a wide V shape (click 4X)
3. the tall obelisk shape (click 2X)
4. the 5-pointed star shape (click 6X)
5. the inverted pyramid shape (click 5X)
You can also go up and look in Atrus' journal to see the shapes of the
first four crystals.

You can only play with the image in the imager.

I discovered this by brute force. I had found the image of Riven very
quickly when I got to this age but I didn't know it was the end of the
game. I thought I had to activate the book that is on that imager
thing and I thought that the pattern of crystals shown in Atrus'
journal was the key to unlocking it. So, I spent two frustrating
evenings playing around with those crystals and eventually got the
images I described above. But I still couldn't activate that damn
book. I gave up and consulted a walkthrough which is when I found out
that the game was over after viewing the Riven image.

There are other easter eggs in that crystal viewer, as shown at
http://www.mystrealm.com/content/RealMyst/EEdefault.asp

I distinctly recall another site mentioning that you could change aspects in
the world in the viewer, like the rock type and so on (as you describe), but
I can't find the link offhand. So don't be too sure you've found something
new :) that's hard to do in this world!

OK - I stand corrected.

When I first consulted a walkthrough at
http://www.mystrealm.com/content/RealMyst/walk/Rimeage.asp, I followed
the easter egg link at the bottom of the page to
http://www.mystrealm.com/content/RealMyst/EEdefault.asp which doesn't
show the one I found.

I have since found another easter egg site at
http://home.comcast.net/~zardoz05/huevo_and_vika_cracked.htm that
contains a link to some nice pics for the one I described. Click on
the 'The Puzzle Age' link to access it.
