Hi,

I have an old XP desktop PC, which I am trying to connect to a wireless network using Realtek RTL8191SU usb adapter.
I installed the adatper driver ( from disk), but is does not work. in the XP network connections screen it says "unavailable", and right click -> connect fails.

So, I am trying to check whether the adapter itself is OK, by connecting the adapter to a Win7 Lenovo T530 laptop.

The laptop has an Intel Centrino adapter , which works fine.
Here's what I did:
1. Connec the Realtek adapter to the laptop
2. install the adapter driver (windows says Device is working properly)
3. Disable the Intel Centrino adapter
4. No wireless networks are displayed.

Can it be anything beside the adapter is broken?

Tx

Wrong procedure my friend. For first-time use, you don't put a USB WiFi adapter anywhere near your laptop until after you start installing the driver and the setup routine tells you to plug it in.

Hi Mate,

Do you really think - this is the reason why it is not working?
I connected the adapter - and than windows identified it, and searched online for the driver. Found and installed it.
Now it says - Device is working properly.
Adding the fact that there is also something wrong in the original pc ( where it sued to work) - I suspect the adapter.
only I can not find any reason something will be broken...:(

Anyway, I will check your advice and report.
