I am hoping that someone here will be able to help me. I have read a lot of post regarding realtek and windows 7 and have not been able to 1) solve the no sound issue, but 2) i have now managed to get sound manager to register a headphone and mic when nothing is plugged into the front jacks.

Here are the computer and card specs

OS- Windows 7 Ultimate service pack 1
Manufacturer- MSI
Processor- AMD Phenom II X3 705e Processor 2.50 GHz
Ram- 6.00GB
System Type- 64-bit OS

Sound Card Realtek HD Audio
Driver- 6.0.1.6449
Direct X version 11.0
Audio controller HD Audio
Audio Codec ALC892

This was a system that me and a friend built and I'm certain everything is plugged in and in the right spots. I have uninstalled both driver and hardware and reinstalled. I have disabled front jack detection, and also have set front and rear jacks to play audio simultaneously. I have tried almost everything I have found and or know on my own to no avail.

As stated above I have working speakers plugged into the analog output on the rear of computer, I have nothing plugged into the front jacks however realtek seems to think I do. When I run a sound test I see the eq lighting up but hear nothing.

Has anyone here had the same issue or anyone have any ideas how to remedy this?

Is there any chance that you are from Norway and have a "Komplett-PC"?

I have a Gigabyte Z87 D3HP and when I installed an XFX Radeon R9 290 and then decided I didn't want to keep it and took it out again I have no sound. I originally had linux and then I swapped over to windows - all legit - and the same thing is happening with no sound output but the system identifies when I plug in an audio device - even front audio - but there is no sound actually output.

Speakers work, audio drivers switched tons of times, even a fresh operating system didn't work, so I tried flashing my bios. This did nothing to solve the problem.

Does anyone have any ideas?

having a similar problem i'm using r9 280 i grt sound through head phone jacks but only system sounds no audio with games or youtube try'd a multitude of things listed here before even coming here any one got a solution let me know gona try giving it to my local pc repair shop to have a look at

I've been trying to figure this out for months, first the front jack stopped playing and eventually the rear jack decided to quit too. I could only get sound when testing in 5.1; when it tested the center and sub-woofer. After trying your suggestion I have audio again, Woohoo!! Unfortunately it only works from the front jack, apparently the rear one is still on strike. Oh well I have audio, I'm happy. Thanks so much!

My problems starts just after put a r7 260x
Everything working, but no sound, tried everything in thousand post and foruns.
Onboard is enabled, chipset updated, all drives OK
I already do a fresh in OS a thousand times with no luck.
Neither praying for IT Gods solved

You must change "Stereo" to "5.1" or "7.1" in order to get sound for many users.

You must click the Settings on the Realtek HD Audio Manager pop up, it should be small little icon that looks like a wrench at the bottom right. Click on that then check "Disable Front Port Detection". Now the front audio jacks won't fight with the rear ones, both should work.

You must click on the "Back Panel" and "Front Panel" Audio jacks of the Realtek HD Audio Manager pop up on the right. Right click each and click the item detected- Mic, Speaker, Headphones, etc.

Also some motherboards have several 3.5MM jacks in the back. Normally hook up headphones to the front jacks and external speakers to the back jacks.

whell i got the same Audio drivers as the first poster and what i do miss is not only the 2.1 optoin for sound
it whas also frecking up whit my playdevice thus couldnt us skype i think its realtek problem
not the rest i Deinstalled it and my playback device is now working
do realtek has 2 do something correct they always have problems
most hardware providers knows that and they still put on realtek hardware on there boards

I am having the exact same problem. Software wise, everything is working fine but no sound comes out of speakers or headphones on either jack.

Really, pretty much the same issue here. Everything seems to work fine. Sound card is detected, computer detects when you plug in speakers, speakers works fine, but still no sound. BIOS is set properly, I just don't know what to do anymore.

^ this.

A couple days ago I used compressed air to remove the dust in my tower. Plugged everything back in on the outside of the tower. Now I'm having the same issue. No solution is solving my issue entirely.

I have 5.1 surround sound speakers, but when toggling the 5.1 option in the Realtek manager, I get sound only from my front and right speakers. I get music while watching a Youtube video, but nothing when listening to Spotify.

I also tried Puppy Linux, and I seem to have no troubles whatsoever as far as sound. So for me the issue lies somewhere in Windows. But I just don't know where.

I'm gonna look in my tower again. Maybe something was unplugged without me realizing it? I don't know.

i had this problem after replacing my hard drive and installing windows 7. i had to go to my device manager and there was a category labeled unknown i believe. there was an unknown audio drive there, so i double clicked it and updated the driver. now my sound is back and everything is working properly. maybe this will help.
