Not totally sure if this is the correct forum, but I have a very vexing problem with my on-board sound card. As I said, it's a Realtek, and it seems to have some weird problems with analog input. Just before I go into detail, I would like to say that I have done just about everything possible with drivers. I've re-installed them, rolled them back, updated, and nothing works. Anyway, this sound card has taken to not recognizing my headphones when I plug them in, sometimes no sound comes through, and sometimes (if I'm lucky), sound comes through both my speakers and my headphones. If this is the case, then (stranger still), muting my speakers will allow me to listen to music through my headphones without the speakers.

I've tried pretty much everything suggested, which leads to the much more annoying part of my problem. It doesn't detect any sort of analog input at all, so no relevant Realtek settings work; I have no connector settings, no playback settings (in Realtek Audio manager), and pretty much nothing else that could help.

Thanks a lot for any help; I fear I may have to get a new sound card, but I hope not. Any sort of advice (short of re-installing windows) is very welcome.

I know that this is very little help, but in the off chance that someone is in a similar situation, I found that the problem seems to be physical. I'm unable to get to the part of the computer that houses the sound card (due to not having specialized screwdrivers), but I found that sometimes making sure sure your computer is level, and not under any pressure can make it detect analog inputs again. Hope this helps someone!
