I've been having problems with Realtek Drivers ever since I've upgraded to Windows 10 a year ago.

The problem now: Realtek is not detecting or playing sound through headphones connected through the 3.5mm jack. (I've even checked to make sure I was connecting to the right port)

Headphones connected through USB and Bluetooth work flawlessly; Just not when I use the headphone jack.

The speakers do shut off like they're supposed to when I have my headphones plugged in.

I've checked playback devices, and I don't even see the headphones there.

I've tried updating Realtek's drivers, uninstalling and reinstalling, and preventing Windows from reinstalling Realtek by denying all permissions for the system to read/make changes to the Realtek folder.
Not even the default Microsoft Audio Drivers worked.

I can confirm that this is not a hardware problem because I somehow got my headphones working yesterday, but it stopped working when I rebooted my computer. I've not been able to replicate that since.

I've even made sure that my headphones were not muted. I'm out of ideas.
I'm pretty sure that this is a software problem and that this is because Realtek's drivers are ass.

Any ideas? :|

Solution
Okay, you didn't mention laptop so I wasn't sure.

1) So the laptop SPEAKERS work fine, but it can't toggle to the headphones.

2) Worked FINE before W10 and worked if you messed with settings so I agree it's a software issue.

So...
I'm a little stumped. You could try doing an "in place upgrade" of W10.

W10 in-place upgrade: http://www.wintips.org/repair-windows-10-with-in-place-upgrade/
1) create W10 install DVD/USB (exact same W10 version)
2) start "setup.exe" file
3) *keep programs and data when prompted
4) *do not type in a key if prompted

The above basically reinstalls W10 to itself thus replacing files and resetting things. I've done it myself several months ago when things were screwing up due to MS updates or something and...
1) 3.5mm devices can't be detected by the system.
The analog output is just a varying voltage on the wire, so there's no communication there about the headphone or speaker details.

2) Do you have DESKTOP SPEAKERS?

Regardless, unhook any speaker outputs, then make sure you use the GREEN OUTPUT (unless colored unusually) and just use the headphones.

3) Denying permissions etc?
I wonder if you've somehow messed things up that way...

4) Got them working, but don't know how?
Yeah, sounds like some conflict but I don't know if you have desktop speakers or what else you've done.

5) Realtek drivers are "ass"?
Not IMO.
I don't hear of too many problems (relatively) that are Realtek's fault. Sounds more like an issue with Windows and/or something you did messing with permissions.

So... how to fix?

*It's a bit confusing since you've been messing with things, but one option is to try an "IN PLACE UPGRADE"->
http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/16397-repair-install-windows-10-place-upgrade.html

#1 - download latest W10 Install (USB Or DVD) using the Media Creation Tool

#2 - open W10, then navigate to that and run "setup.exe" (so you are not booting to it)

#3 - make sure that you KEEP ALL DATA and PROGRAMS

#4 - other: i forget if it asks, but do not type in a key during the install

OTHER:
*I'm looking over this again, and keep thinking about you seeing no headphones. NO. again, you would not.

Your "PLAYBACK DEVICE" should simply be "Realtek High Definition Audio", and it should be set as DEFAULT.

If that's okay, then again the Headphones should be in the GREEN output, and the volume should be appropriate.

**If playback device is set to "HDMI" or something else besides Realtek then you won't get audio out.

I'm using a laptop, and I don't have any desktop speakers plugged in. I made sure that I undid every change I made to Realtek's file. I've also set the default playback device to "Realtek Digital Output", but to no avail.

Other:
LINUX CD/USB
You can test the audio by creating a boot disc for say Linux Mint. It should work fine, and can help prove it's not some intermittent hardware issue like a loose connection. I doubt it, but I keep a disc handy when testing PC's as it's a simple test mostly.

More simple solution?
Obviously the most likely situation is something messed up with the audio drivers, or related software but I don't know what else to suggest that has not been tried.

Solution
click on the speaker icon, look at the playback devices, Windows 10 and realtek are at odd of late, I had similar issue with a desktop,
I did install a fresh copy of the realtek software (from realtek website) HD audio manager, and setting the ports to be managed independently
it unlocks no headphones issue I was having as well.
