[citation][nom]wheredahoodat[/nom]I wish someone would drag Mozilla in the modern advertising era. I know that Mozilla doesn't have anywhere near the budgets of Microsoft and Google to media blitz you on TV, but even stuff like outreach on youtube, Mozilla is lagging badly, literally having only a fraction of views and subscribers in contrast to its competitor's youtube channels. The There is room to plenty of room differentiate itself and to sell the brand. For example Google Chrome is probably Mozilla's greatest threat because it cannibalizes many former Mozilla users, so when Google is repeatedly in the news for privacy concerns, Mozilla can't get its messaging together to take advantage of it? If Mozilla truly believes that a open web is worth fighting for, then it has to exhibit a certain edge and have enough courage to forcibly explain when necessary what is stake even if it means it may need to step on a few toes.[/citation]

If Mozilla pisses off Google, then the majority of their funding may stop coming in because Google might stop paying Mozilla. Google's paying about $1B to Mozilla over the next three years or so (might be getting closer to two or two and a half now, I should check) and Mozilla can't afford to jeopardize it.

Electrolysis is currently stalled, but there is another project with a similar goal, called Snappy.

[citation][nom]blazorthon[/nom]The problem with silent update is that you might not want it to update, but it will do so anyway. That is why it is often considered a controversial feature. If there is a simple way to turn it on/off then it won't be a problem, but if it's not able to be disabled, then a lot of people may cry foul.[/citation]
The silent update is done with a separate program or process (not sure what, exactly), and FF will ask the user after updating whether she/he wants the silent update or not. If not, Firefox will update as it used to. Or at least, it asked me about it when I installed it to use it to clear the profile of the stable one (stable and dev versions use the same profile by default).

Whenever chrome fanboys start whining, I just laugh and leave 'em behind in the dust. I have tried both browsers extensively, and trust me: when it comes to speed, stability and user friendlyness, Firefox is running circles around chrome.

As much as we all love to hate IE, if it weren't for MS "giving" it away with every copy of Windows, then we most likely wouldn't have any of the free browsers we have today. Soon after, Netscape was given away free as well. Another thing, if IE wasn't already installed into Windows, how would you download either Chrome or FF? We would most likely have to purchase them at a retail store. Firefox is Netscape resurrected and Mozilla is a non-profit whereas both IE and Chrome are in it for the money so to speak. Personally I use Chrome on my slower, older Core Duo cuz it launches faster than FF, and FF on my newer faster computers (laptop and desktop, i3 and i7).

So many people seem to act like they have to pick 1 browser and stick with it! Use a variety! Your computer won't care if you install 12 web browsers to use! And here's one more sentence for me to end with a !

" Soon after, Netscape was given away free as well." - TommyGunDam

The first Web browser was NCSA Mosaic' written by Marc Andressen when he was still at the University of Illinois. After he graduated, he created Netscape, which was ALWAYS free. When Microsoft came out with Windows 95, they licensed Mosaic from the U of I, and called it Internet Explorer. Just a little history lesson from someone who was on the WWW in '94 (using UNIX) before Win95 existed. Get your facts straight before how much you DON'T know.
