Check the bios to make sure it actually is detecting your harddrive, if not it may simply have detached itself from the ide / sata connector. Simply removing the hardrive cover and plugging it back in should fix the problem.

I had to do this for someone the other week, was the quick laptop fix I have ever had to do lol.

If the bios is detecting the harddrive then the problem is most likely with windows being corrupt, what OS do you have ?
