First of all, I have a DELL computer, one of the latest models and always kept drivers and updates to the latest level. Anti-Virus etc. everything first class, as a stable system means $$$ to me.
Reading the news about the Spectre issue, I installed the updates first after a long vacation absence. Very soon thereafter I had the first BSOD, followed by a reboot and more BSOD, all kind of error messages that made no sense, as previously I used the system daily for years without a single BSOD. It got so bad, that I already got a BSOD before reaching the Windows login. Then I decided to reinstall Windows from a USB stick. Again, BSOD each time.
So I thought I may have gotten a virus or some hardware defect with the hard disk. Therefore I removed my hard disk and installed a spare one from Western Digital. It is a completely empty one and just to make sure, I formatted it through BIOS. Then I tried to install Windows again, but shortly after the installation files were loaded, I got a BSOD again, mostly by "SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED"
I ran a memory test already, everything without any error. All fine, just as expected. I do not write about my system details, as the PROBLEM consists of having only the command prompt, which leaves me few options to solve it.
I have no idea how to fix this, as most "solutions" require a Windows login. I have no idea how to identify the issue either. Is it some code from the update which has updated my CPU and now is nested deep in the hardware? Right now, my hardware is so dead, which is highly frustrating.
Any proposal of a solution is welcomed - right now it seems that I would have to buy a complete new computer/hardware, which is not my first choice, but time is money too...
