All i can say is WOW!!!!! I dont have the Hitachi to compare to this monitor, but ohhhh boy!!! I just setup my brand new system, a p4 2.5@3ghz, ati 9500pro, 512 3200 corsairxms... hooked up the lcd digitally and it just shines!

First off, I feel that I must mention this. I purchased the monitor from Monitorsdirect.com due to what ive heard on this forum and many others, and i will just back this up some more as this has been repeated over and over: Monitorsdirect.com rules! Got the monitor right when it came out. It came packaged up perfectly. And to top it off, not one dead pixel or subpixel.

I setup Win XP asap to get to some games. I played UT2k3 for about an hour! Picture is FLAWLESS!! Looks Ohhh so clean. My older CRT is hitting the closet. Colors are superb, text is crisp and very legible, and blacks look quite black.

Simply i am stunned with this monitor. Also, the viewing angles seem great too. Not like i am going to be using the monitor while i am standing practically behind it, but the field of vision is extremely wide.

SOrry for the long post, im just excited 😉 I also got the imput adapter from planar for my monitor which i will test out soon. I will then be able to plug my satellite and Nintendo 64 up to my pc! Nice!

DO NOT PUT THE OLD MONITOR IN THE CLOSET. you vid card can du duel display. hook it up and have the lcd and crt side by side. in display properties go to settings and tell it to extend the desktop to the othere monitor. once you have used this for about a week you will loth to go back to a single monitor.

Now thats what I want to know!

Thats a great idea I never thought to take advantage of the dual ports on my ATI9500pro now all I need is a LCD screen to put next to my CRT.

I just recived this monitor also. One of the things that strikes me as strange is that the brightness control appears to do very little. On other monitors I've had it would make a huge difference, I feel like i'm looking at a lightbulb. Anyone else notice this?

Ok, im back to post some more info... Well, a couple of weeks have gone by, and my thoughts have yet to change: this monitor is the bomb!

First off, this monitor, sporting its fast response time, allows lcd monitors to get to the point that judging ghosting, streaking, etc is irrelevant because it just does not exist anymore. Seriously, gaming on this monitor is superb. So from this moment on, I will go out on a limb and say that when a 16ms and less response time monitor comes out, stop asking if its ghosts and so on.

Next, someone said i should connect my crt and lcd next to each other. I did for a little, but its kinda pointless, all i was staring at was my lcd!

Also there was a comment on the brightness, I suppose that this is a personal preference. When using Windows Xp, I need to set the brightness to the lowest level because after just like 2 minutes of reading emails and such, the brightness kills me. The white is really really white! Then when playing games u just need to adjust brightness accordingly. Obviosly some games are darker than other. This is far from bothersome to me.

Any other questions please feel free to ask.

How about the viewing angles? Planar PX171M uses the same panel as Hitachi CML174 and I think it has horrible horisontal viewing angles. I mean it is always dark at the top or light at the bottom.

Hey, you said you were going to hook the monitor up to the Nintendo 64.....I'm wondering how well did that work overall? Was there much quality loss when you did that, would you recommend playing consoles on that monitor?

The idea of a second monitor is to extend desktop space. If you were staring at your LCD all the time, that's becaue you didn't make use of the second monitor. Ex.: You write code on your LCD and read the algorithm on the other. You serf the web with two open/viewable windows at the same time. etc. The possibilies are endless and you acheive better productivity.

Try it again
