Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good 3rd party air cooler that doesn't need a backplate for AMD FX chips ?. I have an FX 6300 and its always been a little loud with the stock cooler, but Ive started playing GTA 5 lately and after about 20 minutes it sounds like a jet engine. My case doesn't have easy access to the back of the motherboard and really don't want to have to take it out to fit something like a Hyper Evo. Ive been trying to pickup a wraith cooler (the old AM3+ one that came with the 8370) separately on ebay but they are rare and usually stupidly over priced.

My main concern is noise, if I can do a little overclocking to that's a bonus but not essential, any recommendations ?.

Thanks in advance

Edit: Would this be ok ?

nope, that Wraith Max Cooler uses bracket lock, instead of screw to backplate directly
I assume you already know what bracket is,

and the bracket is SCREWed...

?, the stock fan doesn't need a backplate, neither does the stock Wraith cooler that comes with the 8370, I know other after market coolers like the Hyper 212 EVO need a backplate but that's not what I'm looking for (as mentioned above).

I'm just looking for something similar to the Wraith cooler that comes with the 8370 so that's is much quieter. Id buy that wraith cooler if it was sold separately for a reasonable price, but it isn't.

nope, they all need backplates, because this is what holds them to the motherboard, so the motherboard doesn't bend or it will burdened from the heavy weight from the cooler
other than that, backplates serves as cooler screw hole

Thanks, that 2nd one on Amazon.com seems like the AM3+ version I was looking for, price is reasonable to, shame about the shipping.

The other 2 seem to be for the AM4 version.

Unboxing starts at 2 minutes in, show me the backplate in that stock 8370 installation video. My stock 6300 didnt come with a backplate either and its been running fine for almost 5 years. The guy in the video at 4:45 in is removing a 6300 with stock fan and replacing it with an 8370 + wraith.

anyway, iirc, backplate comes with motherboard not cpu nor cooler, bracket does

you can get Wraith Max Cooler as it is compatible with FX 8xxx as said in AMD website
