Question Recommendations for a CPU cooler that fits in an H510 Elite case and clears 42mm RAM ?

Howdy,

Old and technologically challenged man here. I've been going in circles online researching which CPU cooler fits my setup, so I'm hoping someone can recommend me a good cpu cooler that has both enough RAM clearance and fits my case.

My parts are:
- NZXT H510 Elite case (apparently has cooling issues, but so far I haven't noticed since I have the side open as dust isn't an issue here - but want to ensure I can close the side if I move)
- Asus Prime X570-p mobo
- 5700x3d (just bought and on its way)
- G.Skill Ripjaws V 2x16gb RAM (I think it has 42mm height?)
- Sapphire Pure 9070xt (don't think gpu should matter?)

I've been looking at a variety of coolers, and while it seems obvious if a cooler fits in the case because it specifies the height of the cooler system (h510 Elite seems to have 165mm), combining that with clearance info to determine if the build is viable seems murky as not many manufacturers display that clearance info (perhaps I'm blind, or perhaps that's for good reason). Also I'm unsure where there are dependencies on the mobo/cpu etc in this equation too. Any info welcomed!

So any recommendations welcome, perhaps someone has a similar build out there. Preference is a white, twin tower, digital cooler if possible, but I'm not going to hamstring myself to those preferences. I'm also aware some cpu coolers may be overkill for now, but I don't mind as will be upgrading to AM5, or whatever is next, not too far down the track.

Many thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

You would be better off with changing the case to something that has better airflow.

You forgot to mention where you're located, what your budget for the cooler is and your preferred site for purchase. Brand and product availability can and will change due to region.

If you have access to Thermalright, you could look into this;

or this;

or you could look into a 240mm AIO.

Thanks! Good to know you agree there are cooling issues - I think I'll be grabbing a new case when I upgrade the package from am4 in about a year.

I'm in NZ - everything is very pricey! But I don't have an upper limit for a cooler (though would be a little hesitant to spend much over 2 - 2.5 hundred).

I like both you have linked - would the double tower cooler clear the 42mm RAM? I have read the front fan can always be raised if not?

Don't thank me yet!

Ah, NZ. PCPartPicker does have your country listed in the drop down menu located towards the top right hand corner of the site. Should help you narrow down coolers. You also have access to Deepcool products, which is a good thing;
https://nz.pcpartpicker.com/product...o-dark-6899-cfm-cpu-cooler-r-ak500-bknnmt-g-1
they also have white variants of their coolers if you want to match the motherboard's heatsinks. You can look through their site, akin to this;
https://www.deepcool.com/products/C...formance-CPU-Cooler-1700-AM5/2021/13067.shtml
to learn of the clearances. The latter shows you can run the rams without any issue.

You could relocate the front fan to the rear of the cooler if the ram interferes but you could also move the front fan a little higher up on the tower cooler.

Just to clarify, even if you have the best air or water cooler in a case that has bad airflow, then you're going to see no improvements in your temps. If I were in your position, I'd look into a single tower cooler, like the DeepCool AK500 and complement the cooler with a case that's ventilated with the budget you currently have.

e.g;
PCPartPicker Part List

CPU Cooler: Deepcool AK500 68.99 CFM CPU Cooler ($104.65 @ PB Technologies)
Case: Lian Li Lancool 207 ATX Mid Tower Case ($133.02 @ PB Technologies)
Total: $237.67

I like the case; it is suitable for air cooling.
Two 140mm front intakes will handle most anything.

As a starter, look at the Noctua NH-D15s:
https://noctua.at/en/nh-d15s-chromax-black/specification

Noctua has extensive data on cooling suitability, here is their comparison for the 5700x3d:
https://ncc.noctua.at/cpus/model/AMD-Ryzen-7-5700X3D-1787

There is also a check for motherboard compatibility:
https://ncc.noctua.at/coolers/NH-D15S-5/motherboards

Sometimes vrm's are too close,, or the first pcie slot interferes.
No problem with your motherboard:
