I'm looking to build a desktop PC on a £1000-1500 budget (so UK prices of course), asking for suggestions. Basically I want something that'll last me 3ish years without major upgrades, mostly playing multiplayer FPS games (FPS>graphics).
CPU wise I'm considering i7 8700k, i5 8600k (maybe non OC versions) or Ryzen 7 2700x. Possibly something like this kit: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Components4All-Motherboard-ThermalTake-Contac21-Pre-Built/dp/B07BM6YRX5/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1538271052&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=8700k+bundle&dpPl=1&dpID=511dv3N1x9L&ref=plSrch
RAM should be 16GB I suppose, for this kind of build.
For the GPU I'll most likely use a 1070ti/1080 unless the new RTX 2080 cards or the 1080ti drop in price a bit.

I've been looking at refurbished PCs on the Dell outlet, so maybe an i7 one with me swapping the GPU (and PSU) for a better one. That is kind of dependent on what they have in stock though.

If anyone has any pointers I'd be glad to hear them.

Solution
At that price range, going pre-built is a waste since you can get something pretty decent if you build it yourself.

This build will last you more than 3 years since the CPU alone offers a 3-year warranty.

I went with Ryzen since you can go for high-end parts on the CPU, Mobo and RAM within this price range.
Specially since the price includes a cooler and it has a 3-year warranty period. Also went for high-end B450 motherboard instead of mid-end X470 since you're not planning to run SLI.
I chose that case since it's one of the best for Air Cooling due to front mesh being so big and it has dust filters everywhere.
Also, it has 2 fans included, so I added 3 for the front, 1 for the back, and 2 included you can put at the top. Also went for RGB RAM since the CPU cooler also has a bi of RGB in there.
Went for 1070 since you play FPS games and don't really need a 1080Ti. That way you can get an RTX upgrade in a year or two from now (but TBH this one will last you a while).

Let me know what you think.

Solution
Wait for the 9600k and z390 release (less than a month). Get the msi gaming pro carbon or asrock extreme 4 or Asus prime a or Strix series mobo or the 150 quid mid range aorus series.

Go for the 1070ti for 1080p, 1080ti for 2k 144hz.

2x8gb of 3000mhz rams would be good.

Get a cryorig H5 or coolermaster ma620p or be quiet dark rock 4 cooler.

250/500 gb of mx500 or 860 Evo ssd with 2/1tb hdd.

Seasonic focus plus 650,evga g2 /g3 or corsair rmx psu.

Put that in a phanteks P350X or NZXT H500 or fractal design meshify c case.

Thanks for the tips. I'm looking at MSI Carbon (https://www.scan.co.uk/products/msi-b450-gaming-pro-carbon-ac-amd-b450-s-am4-ddr4-sata3-dual-m2-2-way-crossfire-gbe-ac-wifi-usb-31-g) as a possible alternative, since it seems better equipped at the same price. With it I would switch to 16GB Corsair RGB Pro as well.
Only other thing I'd change is the 1070, since the 1070ti cards cost pretty much the sane. Maybe a 1080, since those only hold a small premium for a more basic version. It is true that the 1080ti is overkill, especially for a 1080p monitor
