I recently purchased a pre-built desktop, that came with an AMD Fx 4300, 8gb ddr3, a amd r7 240 2 GB GPU, and a 1tb 7200rpm hdd. I have already swapped out the GPU with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 ti sc 4 GB gddr5. I would like to swap the CPU with something more powerful, but still want to use the same mobo wich has an AM3+ socket. Any suggestions that will work? Thanks.

760G chipset. Old board and probably cheap and won't have the power needs for a 125w CPU, so that cuts out a bunch. 8320E might work, but again it depends on the board if they have support for the E processor, and CyberPC is known for cheaping out, so could be a board with no BIOS updates to support it.

As said, if possible, send it back, get your money back and buy something better. That is a dead end processor and platform, going on 10 years old, and wasn't that powerful to begin with.
It really depends on what motherboard is in there. If it's an older name-brand one, then the board probably won't have a BIOS to accept the last models of the AM3+ that were made, and if it's a cheapy, it probably doesn't have the VRM and power needed to do even a 8320 or something,.

Can't i do a bios update?

My 2 cents, if you can, return it. You can do better for your money.

You've already paid for a GPU that you're replacing, and now you want to replace the CPU.

By the time you're done, you will still have an old dead end PC, and paid way more than it's worth.

The CPU runs all my game great, and i haven't even overclocked it yet. But eventually i will have to upgrade outdated components. That's why I came to the forums.
