Recommended External HDD

Looking for recommendations for a 2TB HDD as an external. Had two Lacie drives and took them to Haiti and they both failed on me. The connections inside that attach to the board. Also now looking at OWC Mercury Elite Pro mini, but it comes with a Seagate Mobil that has mixed reviews. I am headed to Myanmar so looking for a good durable HDD. Also prefer USB powered no additional power requirements.

It was/is a Seagate that is in the Lacie? This was several years ago. Looking for new option to go out to field again.

Hello spinningstill, depends how many years ago that was but we offer support now on Lacie drives even though they are more common in Europe than the Americas. There are many brands out there that will fill your needs. We have several external drives you may consider and if you need something more tough such as water, drop, and shock resistant you may want to consider these again.

Probably would not buy a Lacie again. It was the enclosure that failed while in Haiti. The connector separated from the board on the inside. Need a more reliable option.

How much do you have to spend? A portable SSD would certainly have more endurance. Might give this a read, not sure how useful their reviews are though: https://www.pcmag.com/roundup/361072/the-best-rugged-hard-drives-and-ssds
