Can I please get some recommendations on recording desktop and audio software?

One of the best known is Audacity.

Free, lots of features; can record whatever you are listening to at the moment, edit existing sound files, save as WAV or mp3, remove unwanted noise to some extent, etc.

Generally.....

Under Edit/preferences.

You'll probably have some degree of frustration setting it up, but it's excellent if you stick with it.

Audacity has its own forum that has been helpful to me:

The help files online are pretty extensive too......it's been around a long time, 15 or 20 years that I know of. I'm using a 4 or 5 year old version on Windows 10 without issues....version 2.1.3.
