Can you restore a Dell laptop with an Acer disk image? And will the software work?

I know there are many more variables, but I need to show this person that it is not just a simple restore and magically all software will work.

Solution
Manufacturers normally to prevent user to use the "computer defined recovery disk, the CD itself only boots up a client version of the actual program normally to access a secure partition on the Dell or acer desktop serving this single purpose or restoring the dell or acer computer.

booting a recovery cd is not installing windows, its restoring a factory backup image they put on all their (dell or acer ) installed new OEM computer
so you need the restore disk and the corresponding hard drive still with the recovery partition on the said hard drive, and of course the program does check normally if you have it on the proper computer it was designed to be installed on...

yes this was a long winded explanation to say no it wont work.
No. First, OEM specific versions of windows are only geared to be activated on those devices via BIOS information. Second, that Dell image may have all the drivers installed and ready to go for that particular model, and it wouldn't even work right on another Dell, nevermind a different brand.
