Recovering Mywinlocker suite or .vmdf files.

Hello, I sent my laptop to a family friend for some free hardware repairs, but after discovering that my computer was highly infected with viruses the technician decided to save my data on an external hard drive and then do a reinstall/repartitioning of windows. I haven't installed anything on my laptop since getting it back, but have run testdisk, AOMEI partition assistant, and photorec from my external hard drive in an attempt to recover about 30 Gb of hidden and encrypted data that was housed in my Yo-Safe. I don't think the data would have been overwritten, but I haven't been able to locate it yet. I also tried to run G-parted by mounting it on my external hard drive, but I couldn't even figure out how to execute that program (stupid linux learning curve). Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I contacted Egis and they weren't able to help me because I can't locate my .vmdf file. Does anyone know of a recovery program that has parameters allowing you to specify a search for this file type?

The .vmdf file is typically saved in the drive specified by the user during setup in a folder labeled "MyWinLockerData". The file is hidden and encrypted, although a shortcut can be made if it is saved using the default settings during setup using the name "MWL_PSD_drive.vmdf". i.e.: "X:\MyWinLockerData\MWL_PSD_drive.vmdf". I haven't been able to open or mount the file, but I thought this might help if you wanted to try contacting EgisTec again. I may end up doing the same thing myself.

I had the same problem and did the following:

1. Install a new copy of MyWinLocker (i used the trial version 4.0.14.29) and then locate the folder for the data. Mine was in <drive>\BioExcess\Data\{#}\ BioExcess.vmdf where {#} is a long number. You have to show hidden files, folders and drives in order to see this.
2. Rename the file to something else. I renamed mine to BioExcess.vmdf.bak.
3. Then rename the file that you wanted to be restored. Mine was MWL_PSD_drive.vmdf.
4. Open Yo-Safe and enter the password.

I had the same problem. I had MyWinLocked version 3 and damaged it. Had lost hope until I saw your solution. The applied exactly and it worked. I was able to recover very important files. Thank you very much!!!
One question: I can trust MyWinLocked version 4.0.14.29 or should I use another program? or should I use another method of encryption?

Hoping you can help. I too seem to have lost files after encountering problems accessing Yo-Safe with MyWinLocker 3. I installed version 4 and am now able to see Yo-Safe, but it appears empty. I want to follow your instructions to see if I can recover files, but I cannot find the MWL_PSD_drive.vmdf file anywhere. Have tried the following roots:

C:\Users\TP\AppData\Local\EgisTec\MyWinLocker\Data - nothing in there
C:\Program Files\EgisTec MyWinLocker - includes files such as MWLPSDMngt.dll and MWLPSDUI.dll, but not the one I need.

Would appreciate your help.

it came pre installed on my acer and i deleted it after encrypting files. i reinstalled it and the files wont decrypt.

i have mistakenly deleted bioexcess.vmdf file ... it was an image file of about 50gb ... now i am unable to access my yo-safe ... tried many recovery softwares but am unable to locate and recover this file ... please help ME ...
