Recovery utilities?

A friend of mine was joining two partitions with partition magic and the computer crashed in the middle and none of the data is accessible. Are there any good utilities out there that might be able to recover the data?

Try Winternals Disk Commander. It isn't free, but it seems to be by far the best I've ever used.
