Red CPU light on my motherboard help

I was playing No Man's Sky and then all of a sudden my PC shut down and I tired turning it back on but it would start up for a second then shut down and then start up again and keep doing that until I removed the power I changed the thurmal paste and left it for an hour or two and it started booting up and staying on but now it doesn't display anything on my screens and I have a solid red light on my motherboard with the text "CPU" next to it anyone know what's wrong??

PC specs
CPU - I7 950
Graphics Card - GTX 750ti
Motherboard - Rampage III gene
RAM - x2 8gb hyperx

Does the CPU fan spin when starting the board?

Yeah all the fans start and run normally and the heatsink is locked in correctly

Try clearing the CMOS (unplug the power cord and remove the CMOS battery for a minute). If still red CPU LED... maybe it's time for an upgrade.

Yeah I tried removing the battery I'll try again and hope it works thanks from the help
