Hi there,

I am having some pretty intense frame rate issues while playing some pretty demanding games (Dying Light on high settings). I am running a relatively new system. It's been running for about a month now.

I have noticed a red LED which appears on the graphics card itself, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980. I skimmed the manual but do not see anything which indicates what the LED colors are for (I must be missing it, but I've read the thing front to back). My googling has led (pun ha) me to believe that it's a power issue.

This doesn't make much sense though, since I'm running a 1000W PSU, and have tried different different power slots on the PSU. Pictures below. Any feedback really appreciated.

Thanks,
Rob

TLDR: Red LED on GTX 680 graphics card causing frame rates to crash, and on one occasion led to a system freeze. PSU is a 1000W EVGA, and motherboard is the Sabertooth Z97 Mark 1.

Zotac has red LEDs as load indicators. It's a nice bonus feature, but tells you nothing you didn't already know when launching a game. Dying light is not the most stable game, I've had my share of crashes playing it so it may not be your hardware.

What are your FPS dropping to when under load? What's your CPU?

I haven't yet, but I will. All the cables look flawless on the surface, but I'll do this to rule out anything.

That's really helpful to know that it's just a load indicator. So the red LED isn't indicating insufficient power?

And yeah I've read the game can be glitchy. Perhaps that's all it is, but it's the way it crashes that makes me think it could be hardware related. Game locks up entirely, and then FPS drops to like a frame every few seconds. During this time, I patiently press ESC and work towards exiting. Oddly, the FPS doesn't increase once I'm at the menu either. It continues to stall. So the game's bug would need to include the menu... I find this odd, but I'm no game developer.

I'll try running some other system intensive games and see if I can replicate.
Thank you both,
Rob

Did you install the graphic card drivers completely ?? last time I also had experienced frame rate issue....turns out that it was the driver not installed completely....

Hey Sam,

Yeah, the GeForce Experience utility is saying the driver is up to date. However, was not the story when I first installed the card, whole other story dealing with that lol. Probably what you are describing. Good now though!

Follow up two weeks later.

Issue never reappeared. I couldn't replicate the issue by pressing the system on other games. Dying Light patched their game about a week ago, and since it's only run even smoother. Now believe the SSD and video card are fine. It was just a glitchy game.

Thanks to everyone who replied, sorry for the false alarm!
