So I plan on making a PC build with two reference 980's due to their heat being blown out the back of the case. I also plan on using cables from Cable Mods, but the problem I'm having is that theres only 6+2 PCIe connectors, when the 980 only uses x2 6 PCIe connectors. What would I do with the other two pins, just leave them out? OR since they're individual sleeved just keep the 2 Pin PCIe part tucked away with the cable management?

Solution

If you are able to do that "out of the box" then that would be fine and would keep things tidy.
Ya leave them hanging ...

Be aware the cable mod cables are thinner than original equipment.

Also be aware that not all the heat goes out rear on reference cards .... nor, with the 9xxx series, is it any issue at all if it doesn't. The non reference cards will OC about 25%

Alright, also thanks for replying, it was kind of a weird question considering I'd HAVE to leave them hanging no matter what. But after looking closely at Cable Mods' 6+2 PCIe connections are different than what came with my current cables from my Corsair 650x, I think I could just hide the 2 Pin part behind with the rest of the cable management because they're not wired together in the connector itself.
