Refreshed 8.1 now can not install Firefox or Google Chrome.. Help

Can you give us more than a sentence, be more specific? What do you mean by refreshed 8.1? You reinstalled it? Did you reformat? What happens when you try to install Firefox or Chrome? What are the error messages?

must agree with phantom we need more info but you can try installing these apps in safe mode
to get to safe mode,
Immediately after the computer is powered on or restarted (usually after you hear your computer beep), tap the F8 key in 1 second intervals.

After your computer displays hardware information and runs a memory test, the Advanced Boot Options menu will appear.

Use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking and press ENTER.

I don't have a Windows 8 computer, so correct me if I'm wrong, but the Windows Installer service does not run in Safe Mode.

To make the Windows Installer service run in Safe Mode, you need to edit the registry, or use a free simple tool named SafeMSI.

On 8.1 you have 4 options 1. Refresh PC without affecting files.. 2. Reinstall from factory settings.. 3 Reinstall using Disk. 4.system restore, but that didn't work.. I used # 1. Chrome error 103.. Firefox cannot find specified folder..

i dont think you need windowws installer to install chrome just load into safe mode with networking and start the installer. it has its own installer

Or, it might be a Permissions error.

Press the Windows key + R to open a Run box.

Type %temp%

Press Enter.

Right-click in an empty space in the right pane.

Select Properties > Security tab.

Click Edit.

Click Add.

Type Everyone.

Click Check Names. "Everyone" should now be underlined.

Select Full Control under Allow, and then keep clicking OK to exit all windows.
