Im planning on upgrading my GPU because i do alot of 3d rendering which requires GPU power. Octane Render uses CUDA cores. Now originally i was planning on buying a 970, priced at 350$ brand new, and 1664 CUDA cores. However, i can buy a refurbished 780ti, at 350$, with 2880 CUDA cores. Is it safe to buy refurbished GPUs? Are there any downsides?

Solution
i have had good luck with used/refurbed parts...just inspect it and benchmark it heavily the first 48 hrs to make sure its solid otherwise return it and try again. So yes it fairly safe.
I bought my 7950 used (not even a refurb) and it was used for mining before I got it. Haven't had a hiccup out of it. Inspect the card once you get it and if it's damaged just return it.

well i do want to play a couple of games on my system aswell, and ive heard quadros arnt very good at handling games, so i kind of ruled them out 🙁 correct me if im wrong

Quadro cards are fine for high polygon modelling but not gaming.

yeah, so i want t rule that out. Ive used vray before as well. It can be pretty demanding render times but compared to octane, its nothing.

Yep, also used it with Octane and a host of other demanding applications. What's your setup BTW?
