Question Refurbished RTX 4090 GPUs going for $2300 on newegg ?

It's perverse to think I got a deal on my Gigabtye Gaming OC 4090 at $1831.74 out-the-door (thanks Microcenter) at NIB, while a refurbished Gigabyte Gaming OC 4090 is selling for > $400 more.

Meanwhile I just picked up a brand new 7900 xtx from Microcenter for 799. Which my understanding is that it isn’t too far behind in raster. Ray tracing is another matter.

I ended up getting the 2 year walk in warranty so at least if I have issues with it I don’t have to deal with the manufacturer and the store is only about 40 minutes away.

Those super expensive GPUs make no sense, no way that 4090 is 1000 bucks better.

The 4090 '1000 bucks better' is pretty much just for raytracing ATM, but I had thought for most raster benchmarks the 4090 beat out the 7900xtx as well <shrug>.

Agreed. Like my 7900 xtx, I'm sure is fine. I haven't actually hooked it up yet, new power supply just arrived today from Newegg. But my 6800xt could produce great graphics. I like good graphics as much as the next person but 2400 is a bit much.

I saw a video on youtube where the guy had some leaks that suggested the new 5080 could be like $1400 or more. So imagine the 5090. Definitely needs to be some competition.

But regarding the 4090 vs 7900xtx, the 4090 is a faster card, but looking at the link below would you pay $1000 extra?

@ohio_buckeye
I did pay the $1k extra because the raytracing effects in Control and Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition are big framerate killers -- especially in Control.
I had thought AMD had already made an announcement that they weren't going to compete w/Nvidia anymore in terms of top tier GPU performance?

I think they aren’t planning to do high end this next generation, but it sounds like they are shooting for rtx 4080 performance according to a leak I saw today. Hopefully this generation is like a get things together generation and get ray tracing fixed and get fsr more competitive to dlss.

Me personally I can’t justify an extra 1k for a 4090 but for those who can, it’s your money. A video I saw today was saying how that nvidias 5080 and 5090 cards may really be targeted to professionals using them for AI but that the 70 series is really what’s being targeted at gamers, but essentially they will still be happy to stop the higher cards to those who want to pay.

Personally I feel nvidia is getting too greedy. I get making money but I’d rather give AMD or Intel my gpu money at this point. Intel could be one to watch. The fact they’ve already got a 12gb card that is reportedly faster than a 4060 for $250 is impressive. If they begin competing at the mid tier to high end things could get interesting.
