Regarding Win 8 on tablets

Very seriously considering buying the HP Envy X2 15t this afternoon, but one thing concerns me: do Windows devices rely on the manufacturer for updates? My gut says no, and the answer didn't come up easily on a google search. My worry is that when Win 10 is released this fall, I'd have to wait on HP to roll out updated drivers, etc. Valid concern or no?

You'll be fine. Definitely wait and don't upgrade to Windows 10 as soon as it is available. Wait until it has proven to be good and stable. Going forward hardware vendors will have updates to all of their drivers for newer computers.
