Hi,

I recently got a 500GB 850 EVO and have a 500GB HDD. My OS is on the HDD and I want too have a clean install onto the SSD. I also want too have the HDD shown within windows with the information it had on it before. Is this possible?

Or am I better just backing up all important files, clean install and copying them back over to HDD?

I recommend you to use WinToHDD to install Windows onto the new SSD, WinToHDD makes this pretty easy.

Do you have a UEFI style bios? if your bios is set to boot the UEFI style way as opposed to MBR, you will need to format the hdd after you install it on the SSD as otherwise the boot manager will get confused and offer it as a boot option. The way UEFI boot works is different to MBR. It looks on all drives attached and looks for a file name in a hidden partition on your drive, and since both drives would have it, it offers both as choices.

I assume you don't have two licences so formatting the hdd after its had the data copied off is also necessary.

So if you clone it or fresh install it, you still need to wipe the old hdd after.

Don't wipe it until you know the ssd can boot by itself.

The SSD is now my boot drive for my laptop and I have reconnected my HDD but windows isn't detecting it? any solution for that? I haven't wiped it or deleted it so it still has the old copy of windows 10 on it
