[citation][nom]magicandy[/nom]What id is doing here is just bringing the console versions of Doom 3 up to its original Ultra Quality graphics from the PC version, which the original Xbox version couldn't even come close to (the Xbox version was somewhere between Low and Medium settings compared to PC - they had to make a lot of visual sacrifices). In other words: Consoles are finally getting Doom 3 the way it was meant to be seen.[/citation]

Indeed, in the way good PC's played the game on released at August-2004 (Doom3 was what abit like crysis is today - requiring a good pc to run will everything cranked up). So congrats that the consoles get the almost 8 year old game in descent glory now. On a side note, there are still sacrifices according to some reviews compared to the PC ultra settings from back from 2004... Its quite telling!

[citation][nom]joeman99[/nom]Doom 3 lacked Doom 1&2 signature feature: stampeding swarms of enemies attacking, as first imagined in the movie Aliens. The real Doom 3 to me was Serious Sam.[/citation]

Doom 1 and 2 + Quake remakes (can't really call it remaster) would be awesome to see with today's standards.

Yep, PC isnt being left out. I wouldnt mind another chance to play the game. My system I had at the time was barely able to run the game faster than a slideshow. "

is the 3D mode also available for XBOX 360 or is it PS3 exclusive?
i really hope it does come out on PC too. it would be awesome to play it again with surround sound this time. and my current rig should be able to handle it.

that footage looks considerably low res. must be the reduced detail for consoles. on PC i hope it has huge textures and the highest quality effects.

[citation][nom]cliffro[/nom]I thought the same as everyone else, PC was being left out...But I did a little searching and found some articles on it and an interview with Tim Willits which can be read here http://www.theverge.com/gaming/201 [...] on-details[/citation]

Found this on that article:
Willits says id's recent acquisition by Zenimax, parent company of Bethesda Game Studios, has allowed his studio the freedom to take a risk like spending a year tweaking a near decade old game and releasing a 'director's cut,' an opportunity few studios get.

Bethesda just got another nod of approval from me. One of the best developers/publishers we still have left in this world, despite their console approach to games.

By "remastered" they mean it now has some Anti-aliasing... Big Mega Fail of a release.

And I can't believe they're still trying to use Doom 1 and 2 as selling points. Way to beat that dead horse, id.

[citation][nom]magicandy[/nom]Upvoted because Serious Sam was awesome, but it only really offered half of what made Doom so great. Doom was not only about the massive hordes but also the excellent maze-like level design. Serious Sam had the enemies but lacked the exploration and interesting level design. In 2012, there has still yet to be a proper modern Doom successor. Some have come close, like Serious Sam and Painkiller - games that pride themselves on throwing massive amounts of enemies at you. But no modern game has yet to include both the sheer number of enemies as well as kick-ass exploration-based level design. The full Doom experience requires both, and I'm patiently awaiting John Romero to reveal the PC FPS he's reportedly working on. I have a feeling he wants to return to the real Doom experience.[/citation]

While I agree with the sentiment I do feel the need to point out one thing about sam. Sam was one of the first games to use the open world sandbox concept and it was out of necessity. When you have a bunch of guys attacking you in doom 1 or 2 they are usually a bunch of low level guys with a couple of higher level guys and you can usually run down a hallway and funnel them towards you for an easy kill. In sam its about 200 guys all of which are medium to high level (some taking 5 or 10 rockets each) and you need the room to run backwards or youre toast. Plus there's plenty of constricting spaces and hoards of enemies attacking you in serious sam BFE.

Ive mapped for serious sam tse on a mod project that died and Im one of the guys on the wall in the serious hall of fame in TSE. I was also a beta tester for TFE and wrote several scripts (sniper zoom and chat text colorizer to name a couple) that actually got integrated into the game later.

[citation][nom]alidan[/nom]the reason light wasnt mounted on guns was because when doom 3 was in development, that was something that would be impossible to have done with light from the gun at the same time. but when it came round for doom 3 to come out, half life 2 kicked the crap out of doom 3 graphic wise, and on lesser hardware. the mechanics in doom 3 were dated by launch, and all that i can remember was playing that game on a than 5 year old crt... so what was already a REALLY dark game was made even darker to the point i could barely play it even with lights on in the game. i like doom 3 all right, but it was dated at the time of release. ------------------that said, what did they change... anyone see it from the video, because i didnt notice anything besides possibly a soft shadow.[/citation]

No the reason the light wasnt mounted was because ID was trying to be different and innovative (LOL) with a flashlight? The reason I know this is that almost immediately after launch the community released a mod that allowed you to have your flashlight and your gun at the same time.

"Unfortunately, it seems that the re-mastered aspect applies only to the console versions."

I was starting to wonder they would remaster a game that mostly used shades of black.

[citation][nom]john_4[/nom]So will Bethesda require STEAM, the original Doom3 did not even need the CD after you saved a game.Doom 3 was the scariest game I ever played. Will skip this and wait for 4.[/citation]

LOL! That is too true!

[citation][nom]john_4[/nom]Doom 3 was the scariest game I ever played. Will skip this and wait for 4.[/citation]

Yeah, I thought Doom 3 with the lights off and the sound turned off was really damn scary in those days. Hell, I just got a 23" 1080 monitor, and I fired up Doom in 1080 just for fun, and it was still creepy. You can see the influence in Dead Space, which IMO is one of the scariest games of all time.

*sound turned ON, sorry about the typo

"Unfortunately, it seems that the re-mastered aspect applies only to the console versions."

I'm still trying to figure out what he meant by that comment. They are still revamping the PC version with new features, so what is is that they're leaving out? Obviously there's a lot of stuff they can't change without spending huge amounts of money on development, so I'm not sure what he means there.

This is not remastered. This is just the same thing with the screen resolution set to a higher number which you could already do if you have the PC version. It's really unfair to not let console players play their old previous generation games in higher resolution unless they buy them all over again.

[citation][nom]memadmax[/nom]Ok, so if you don't already own Doom3(like me) on the console, then this is for you, unless of course, you have a insatiable appetite to own anything that has the Doom label on it.I really hope this comes out on PC, I hate playing FPS's without a mouse ^.^[/citation]
Just what hole have you been hiding in?

This already came out for the PC back in 2004, and with better graphics.

no they said it in an interview.

the reason that a flashlight wasn't mounted on the guns is because they hardware at the time of development couldn't handle muzzle light and flash light at the same time without bringing even the best systems to their knees so they made game play around that fact.

but by the time they came close to release, the hardware could easily handle it, but game play was all based around the flashlight so they didn't change it otherwise the game would have been severly delayed.

when you take hardware limitations into account, you can see it all over the game where they had to hold back because of hardware not being their yet.

[citation][nom]applegetsmelaid[/nom]I actually liked having to use the flashlight all the time, it added to the suspense of the game.[/citation]

which would have been gone if they duct taped it to a gun. those mods were good for second playthroughs, but the first one, flashlight in hand is a must.
