I have been unable to allow remote access to my computer. I have windows xp
professional and my friend Dan has windows xp home edition. However, when I
"ask" him for remote assistance (via msn messenger), we are unable to
connect. What gives?

The error message that appears says that the remote host name cannot be
resolved.

I assume you have allowed Remote assistance enabled. Right click My
Computer, properties/remote and place a check mark under Remote Assistance.
Also ensure the firewall allows access for Remote assistance.

Greetings Bert,

Do either of you have a router? If so, the router must support Universal Plug and Play
(UPnP) in order for a direct connection to be established (like Remote Assistance). A number
of router manufacturers now support UPnP, but you may require a firmware update or need to
turn UPnP in the router configuration.

You are correct Jonathan ... as it appears my router does not currently
support UPnP and that is preventing the remote access. I will search to see
if there is an update ... otherwise, I will need to buy a new router that
does support UPnP.
thanks,
Bert
