Removing/Adding a heatsink

Ok, the processor I ordered has a heatsink on it already. How do I get it off without damaging the processor? Also, how do I go about putting the heatsink on the processor? Do I just put a bit of thermal compound on the processor and then stink the heatsink to it? Some advice would be helpful. I have a k63 450 and a classic athlon 700.

thanks

It would be a little more helpful if you gave us specifics. Such as the processor you want the heatsink removed from, the processor you want to put a heatsink on, etc.

Thanks

If it's a k63-450 you are in for a time. The heat sink is held to the chip by a thermal epoxy of sorts. It takes many many many long hours going around the gap between the chip and heatsink with a razor blade. I suggest watching army of darkness 3 times while you do it. And next time don't buy the retail chip and shop smart- shop S-Mart. BTW- once you start digging into the k63 bond you begin to distroy the heat transfer material between the chip and heat sink. If you start, don't use the chip again until you get the heat sink off. Of course k63's will shut down if they get to hot, but never the less, it's not a good idea.
