Question Removing and reconnecting my CMOS battery fixes bluescreening temporarily.

When i remove the CMOS battery from my laptop and reconnect it, the laptop stops bluescreening momentarily. Apps start to crash randomly after about 1 hour. It then starts to happen again after about 2-3 hours of use, gradually bluescreening more frequently until the laptop bluescreens on launch. I need to remove and reconnect the CMOS battery for the cycle to start over again.

I also noticed at the 2-3 hour mark the time is delayed by 2 minutes althought the timezone is correct which seems strange.

Do i need to replace my CMOS battery or could this be a motherboard issue?

So, did you change RAM or anything recently?

I would see if you can get it to complete SFC and DISM and then see if it will complete a RAM test. I want to say one of them that won't come to me right now runs from a USB before loading into OS.

If you boot direct to BIOS and just sit there, will it eventually blue screen? What about safe mode?

I did a ram test prior and i got 8167 errors. I tested the RAM sticks in another laptop and they both worked without any errors when running the ram test off my USB stick. They have the same 3200mhz frequency and the same 8gb size.

It's a CR2032 battery. Many stores carry them.

Fully replace the cmos battery with a new one a low voltage battery can cause instability or complete loss of function.

Cr2032 must use this one as it's the right voltage.

If you can't find them in store a hardware shop will know them as coin battery's or clock batteries 2032
