Hi,

I bought a used HD on eBay and it has password protection that come up prior to the bios menu on my boot. I have the password, but need to remove the limitations to run it on my home NAS. Anyone know how to remove, I have tried a full erase via the WD hard drive tool and a clean through CMD print, neither removed the password

If your motherboard fully supports a Self Encrypting Drive (SED) the option to remove the need for a key is usually in the bios. Desktop and server boards rarely do 'full support' though and the option is more commonly found in laptops.

If you don't see the bios option, then you can follow this tutorial to use a linux live cd to remove the encryption but this only works if you have a valid key/password. So if after you enter the key on your PC your don't have full access to the drive then don't waste yours or anyone else's time. Just return or trash the drive.
