Replace a bad motherboard or get a new setup.

Apparently the motherboard in a PC I built no longer provides video. Two different video cards have been tried in it and still no video.
I'm trying to decide if I should just replace the motherboard (it is a P5N - socket 775; I don't remember the CPU speed) or go with one of the new AMD setups like the AMD A6-5400K Trinity Dual-Core 3.6 GHz Socket FM2 65W AD540KOKHJBOX Desktop APU (CPU + GPU) with DirectX 11 Graphic AMD Radeon HD 7540D (what a mouthful) that I saw referenced on Toms Hardware. The PC will be used by my grandsons who will most likely get into gaming.
I don't want to spend more than about $200 for the mobo. & CPU. I know that I will most likely have to spend more cash on ram for a new motherboard.

Any guidance would be appreciated. I'm pretty knowledgeable about computers having built 4 or 5 of them, but my experience is 6 or 8 years old so I don't know much about the newer technology for higher performing system that's available.

I tend to lean toward AMD because in my past experience the higher performing Intel CPUs were quite pricey.

I would suggest simply looking at the used OEM computers from Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, etc.. on NewEgg. You can usually find some with core i3's and i5s below $200.. Going this route, in addition to getting all sorts of fun parts, you end up with a copy of windows... if you just go the other route of cpu/mobo, you'll have to get a new windows license.

That sounds like a good idea; I didn't know that newegg sold used computers. And that solution would give me the parts from the non-functioning computer for me and my grandsons to experiment with.

Please excuse the misplacement of my reply and thanks a bunch for your reply.
