I would like to update my GPU and want to replace it with the best card it will handle. Below is the specs on my 5 yr old build. Any recommendations?

MoBo: ASRock 970M Pro3 AM3+ SB950
CPU: AMD FX6300 "Black" 3.5 Gud
RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB (2x8GB)
PSU: EVGA 100-B1-0600-KR 80+ Bronze 600 watt
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 960 Superclocked 2.0 4GB GDDR5

Solution
$500 is where I'd like to stop. Is my MoBo the bottle neck?
500$ is quite a lot for a gpu to match with your current system.

By upgrading your cpu, mobo, ram and gpu with this list, it will be about 600usd instead of investing 500usd into a gpu. If you still decide to spend 500$ into a gpu without upgrading anything else for a long time, then a gtx 1660 super would be good. Your cpu will be the bottleneck.
