Hi all

My uncle gifted me his old graphic cards since needed to downsize his rig since he is in the armed forces and moves often and I dont know if I should upgrade my rig to suit the new cards in crossfire or repurpose them for my dads flight sim setup. I also play online games quite often so if it will stutter a lot I wouldnt want that (especially Overwatch and at my skill level).
Thanks!
EDIT: I forgot to put down my system specs (from memory)
CPU: Intel Core i5 3470
RAM: 8gb DDR3 1600
GPU: GTX 970
PSU: Corsair RM 650 (I think but I know it has around 600 watts and is semi modular)
MOBO: Asus P8Z77m (I think dont worry about these specs in italic since Im unsure)

list of games I play all at 1080p
Overwatch
Osu!
Skyrim (With many mods)
Mass Effect 1,2 and 3
Flight Simulator X (With GEX and OrbX Scenery + high detail aircraft addons)
Jedi Knight Academy
Knights of the Old Republic
Call of Duty Black Ops 2
Black Ops 3
(plus more demanding games Ill probs buy in the future)

and some programs I use often
After Effects
Premier
Photoshop
Vegas
Animate

I wouldn't recommend it.. you are "upgrading" to an older generation. Much higher power consumption, scaling problems(in some titles) and so on.
You are also playing at 1080p so the 970 should do mighty fine.
Try to upgrade to a single card, in the future.

Your GTX 970 is better then a single HD 7970's. Honestly Crossfire or SLI are not worth it because games do not support two or more GPU's. Instead ask if you can sell your HD 7970's and then sell your GTX 970. People still buy a 970 as it is quite a good card for 1080p. With the money from all three graphics cards you might have enough money for a used GTX 1070. I think a GTX 1060 is around the same performance as a 970 so I would either get a 980 or rx 580 8gb or gtx 1070 or higher. You should get a used GPU too because then you can get a much better deal. Of course be sure it is legit and that the seller is trustworthy or get a new card if you can afford it. Good luck! Or just sell the 2 other GPUs and keep your 970 and use the money for something else in your system or whatever.

I would never go for crossfire again I had 2x R9 290Xs and usually the second gpu is not even utilized or it causes bugs in applications and did I mention the 600 W needed just for the GPUs?
Stick with 1 stronger card.
