i know its not built in I have taken it out and held it. I removed the i3 and put in a i7 it fix the socket just fine went together well but when I went to start it all power comes on on the keyboard and touch sensor but I get no picture and my processor light doesn't light up but my hard drive is spinning please help i feel lost

From researching the net My motherboard Supports INTEL CORE I7-720QM Quad Hyperthreating. But after reading this I'm questioning weather or not to try it. it also supports two or three more Type of G1 988 Socket Type CPUs ...

You CANNOT put a Quad Core into the Toshiba A505-S6005 , You can however put in the i7 2.8 640M Duo Core Same core count as the i3 , remember in the device manager it shows as a quad core due to the virtual cores provided a Quad core cannot be seen and it cannot function , You must match the configuration as a dual core.eBay 2 core i7 , 640M for anywhere from $70.00 used to $199.99 new

Toshiba will tell you that your processor is soldered in and is NOT serviceable , However Toshiba LIES!! (Surprise) The same way as my Qosmio G35-AV600 when it came with 1 gig memory and bad vid drivers , drivers fixed I priced their 2 gig 533 memory , ON SALE FOR A VERY CHEAP TOSHIBA PRICE OF ONLY $999.99 Instant Discount of $20.00 imagine that , they swore No Other Memory Can Be Used Or It WILL damage the laptop , SO Tiger direct 2 , 2 gig 533 sticks ordered $54.99 each , dropped them in and laptop responded perfectly , replaced the 2 5400 rpm drives with seagate SATA6 7200 rpm 500 gig . Laptop still rocks , however due to serial number and manufacture date , windows 7 or Vista cannot be installed Toshiba has to make sure the laptop has an expiration date , plus the Monitor plates start generating thin vertical lines after so many hours as planned after exactly 1 year of noremal use plate must be repl;aced cant see , BUT toshiba wants over $498 for one a replacement with equaliser is less than $200 . OK?

Swapping RAM or the HDD is much different than swapping the CPU.

My 5 year old Toshiba Satellite L305, currently dualbooting Win7 and Win10, would beg to differ.

you obviously missed my earlier post and the 2 words toshiba lied because yopu can replace the i3 dual core 330 m with the i7 640m processor but you cannot put in the quad core i7 from the 2 core i3 it cannot see the extra 2 physical cores , in device manager the i3 shows 4 cores 2 physical 2 virtual that is how the bios is built . if you read carefully the toshiba lies means it is not soldered in .. how could you not see that part . see previous reply to i3 i7 swapout ,
i have been a builder , diagnostitian , repair , laptops ,. desktops , networking over 40 years , i began with the commadore 64 and clones. nthey peakied my interest , been peaked ever since have a nice day

I still have a C-64 and Vic-20, still in original box with original price sticker from Kmart...
Both still work last time I checked a couple of years ago.

As for a laptop CPU swap? Soldered or not soldered is only one consideration.
Does the motherboard chipset support a different CPU? Maybe, maybe not.

And the tier 1 helpdesk clown at Toshiba may not be the most clued in guy to ask.

I bel;ieved I Specified the Qosmio G35-AV600 has a serial number change mid year of manufacture .IF you look at Toshiba support for Vista and win 7 on the Qosmio G35-AV600 there is the first set of serial numbers that DOES NOT ALLOW VISTA OR WIN & , they tell you when the NEWER SERIAL Number begins with , from that point on you can upgrade the Operating system from XP Pro media edition to Vista or win 7 . The Satellite is an entirely different animal than the Qosmio G35-AV600 I thought I had written enough specificity to explain clearly what I meant. begging to differ on a satellite to a Qosmio is a far differ to beg on OR there are nit pickers that just want to half read and assume I am an idiot of some kind. Please read what I type instead of going through on a skip assuming you believe you know what I said But clearly missed what I meant . On the Toshiba site its a hide and seek search to locate the information about the mid serial number changes.i had to call Toshiba to get them to give me the link on the upgrade by serial numbers. before I got it. IF you upgrade the bios to the 3.80 intending to install 7 or vista on the low serial numbers , if you do not push the bios back to the previous one the play movies by simply putting the DVD in goes away , The bios needs to be put back at least 1 version ,I believe to load the start on movies needs the 3.40 bios .

Suggestion , IF you scroll back to where .... "thejrod2yasaves April 16, 2014 6:10:29 PM".... When he is putting in a processor and all works except the processor and screen , This was where the "Misunderstanding" began , if you read all sections from there down It may make a lot more sense. There are about 8 or 9 sections .IF you want the full skinny on the problem had then scroll up to the beginning where he replaced the processor .now I "Believe " he attempted to install a i7 G1 quad core , into a satellite A505-S6005 , I do know that a i7 , 640M 2 core will work fine because its 2 physical cores and 2 virtual cores . they will cross right over BUT a quad core cannot because the bios cannot see 2 more physical cores which should show 4 physical and 4 virtual in device manager .As I type it is on a Toshiba Satellite A505-S6005 laptop running the i7 dual core 640M processor it shows 4 cores in device manager and runs like a scalded dog . Fast ...
