i have an old embedded system in which win-3.1 is running. it has magneto optical drive (MOD) to store data from hard disc to magneto optical disc via SCSI interface. I want to replace MOD with USB. One option is that I may use SCSI to USB adapter, but since the system has old version of Windows, I fear it will not work on it. Please help me if any body can. and propose a new solution. one thing there is a laptop which communicate to system via RS-232 port to carry out self test. Can I store data into laptop from hard disc of the system.

r2-232 to usb cable may solve the problem for you in getting the drive connected to the machine but I would be very surprised if windows 3.1 is going to be able to actually use it.
Your best bet is to contact the manufacturer of the system and ask them about what can be done.
Quite often embedded systems still have support and new parts available years after you would expect them to be out of production.

Thanks to reply.

Actually the manufacturer has refuse to give support. One thing we have replace the old laptop with latest technology and it has win-XP in it. Please explain how i may implement the solution via RS-232 port.
