I have fiber service from Verizon in New York. They didn't use the Ethernet jack of the fiber box (side question: why not?) but provided a cable modem / router that connects to the same coax that runs to my TV boxes.
The Actiontec MI424WR device they provided does not seem to have HNAP - when I navigate to 192.168.1.1/HNAP1/ there is nothing there, ditto for using the web-facing IP address of the device. But when I talked to customer service at Verizon they knew my SSID and WPA2 passwords, which were not the default.
So two questions. First, what kind of consumer device can I get to replace their router, that won't spam my passwords all over the web? And second, purely for my edification, when protocol is running over the coax from the fiber box to this router? Same as if I had cable Internet?
Thanks in advance.
