I have a Pentium 4 3.04GHZ Extreme Edition CPU and INTEL D925XECV2 MOBO but the CPU's heatsink and fan that comes stock with the INTEL P4 chip is noisy as anything when playing a game.

Im looking to replace the heatsink/fan combo with a "Zalman CNPS7700-Cu" setup, the problem I have before I purchase this item is whether it will fit on the mobo without touching any other items on the mobo itself.

http://www.zalman.co.kr/product/cooler/7700-775MBlist_eng.htm looking at this diagram (http://www.zalman.co.kr/images/product_img/cooler/7700-775_drim.gif) where it says "SOCKET 775" that black square is where I have a heatsink on the mobo for some think (have no idea what) which is about 3cm in height roughly (see image - http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/cv2/index.htm - in the centre of the mobo), so according to the specs and diagrams on the zalman site this heatsink/fan combo may or may not sit nicely without hitting or touching that on my mobo as the height of the Zalman item may not be tall enough to avoid touching any other surrounding bits.

The question is has anyone replaced the stock heatsink/fan with this one or can anyone suggest a nice quiet replacement for my Mobo.

Thanks for any feedback.

If it doesn't fit according to Zalman you could also try the 7000Cu version. It's a lot smaller and the cooling performance still is great.

Im not a serious modder so I didnt want to travel down the water cooling option, I just wanted a simple solution at this point.

As for the Zalman 7000Cu that wouldnt fit on the Socket 775 motherboards I dont think, as its only for the Intel 478's and some AMD setups.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.
