My laptop came with a 1TB HGST Travelstar 0J22423 7200RPM SATA III 6.0Gb/s HDD with 32MB cache installed as the data drive, and I was just curious if there are any potential performance increases by replacing it with a WD5000LPLX that has the same speeds and same size cache or if the speeds would remain pretty consistent and I should just keep the existing drive? Or, are there any other drives, other than high cost SSDs, that would provide increased performance?

Solution
You could try a hybrid drive with a ssd cache. This should increase the speed slightly for frequently used programs but it will be nowhere near as fast as a ssd.
