Replacing BIOS chip worth a try?

Is it worth replacing my BIOS chip before considering getting a new MOBO? The board was bought used, so no RMA. It has problems booting from cold. it won't POST. I've tried all the usual diagnostics and determined that when it decides to POST, is totally random. So to get it to work, i just make several attempts. Sometimes i leave it while I go out, and it POSTs sometime while i'm gone. It seems to be taking longer and longer, and now won't POST at all. I'm pretty sure it's the board, and most likely the BIOS chip itself, so I'm thinking of just replacing it and potentially saving a lot of money. (Or potentially wasting a small amount of money) I have no problem with soldering/desoldering SMD ICs, but was wondering if there's a more likely cause of these exact symptoms, or if my guess is most likely correct. I've reset CMOS, and flashed the BIOS with no change in symptoms. Once the system had started, everything worked fine, and restarts were no problem.

Actually, it's a Gigabyte board and has a main BIOS and backup BIOS. Seems pretty unlikely for both to fail. I guess it's worth a shot though.

Floppy disk? Is that a joke?
