Can I use DDR2 PC8500 (4GB) to replace my current DDR2 PC5300 (2GB)? I have an Asus P5L-MX mobo, Intel Core2Duo E6400 2.13GHz CPU and 2GB of DDR2 PC5300.
Hi newcomer and welcome to the Tom's hardware forum.
Yes you can buy DDR2-1066MHz, but whe you put this on your mobo only can run at 667MHz at least that you set all the specifications of the RAM manually in the BIOS and, cross your fingers for that your mobo support the configuration.
Thank you very much for the replies. I was already aware that the newer, faster RAM would clock down to 667MHz to support the motherboard.
I was looking at local prices and 4gb (2gb x 2) of PC8500 was cheaper than 4gb (2gb x 2) of PC5300/5400.
I am hoping for the most bang for the buck on my aging 2yr old PC running Windows 7 32bit. Even my work issued laptop has a faster Core 2 Duo processor and 4GB or RAM!
