Replacing Glued on CPU Heatsink

Replacing the glued on heatsink CPU lid with a better one.
Replacing nickle plated copper heat slug that is soldered to the silicon.

Is there a beter solution to wicking heat away from the silicon die than the current factory installed copper slug?
If CPUs came shipped without the slug what is the best slug/solder/seal/themal paste solutions to really wick away heat.

1) Best heat slug at any price
2) Best heat slug at reasonable price?

Ok lets try this question.
How could intel/AMD make the CPU heat slug better to shead heat?

Easy. Build a purpose designed diamond-maker to produce diamonds exactly the right shape to fit over the individual processor cores. Then you can fit your copper HSF on top and get no benefit whatsoever, but DAMN the diamond will look good!

Copper is a perfectly good conductor of heat (not far behind silver) and the nickel plating is suspect is there for anti-corrosion purposes.

If you really want to change things then try removing the IHS altogether. Don;t recommend it though. Firstly they don't come off readily, secondly you risk damaging the processor core or resistors, and thirdly unless you've got a way of mounting accurately striaght to the processor core then you'll end up with more heat than you started with.

If not, lap the IHS, have a working processor and be happy!

its called a heatsink, and it stays on the cpu via thermal compund like arctic silver 5 and it has a clip to clip to the motherboard. heat goes from the cpu to the heatsink and the compound helps this proccess greatly.. wtf is a GLUed on SLUG??
