Replacing GTX 560 Ti in the near future - Should I hold out for 660Ti

You are Mistaken all EVGA gtx 670's come with a 3 yr warranty that can be extended for additional cost but there is no life time warranty available on the 600 series cards from EVGA to my knowledge. I checked the link to the gtx 670 from evga linked in this thread and it is a 36 month warranty listed. I am an active member on the evga forums and this was a hot topic when the 680's were released.

I noticed that single fan too. But a lot of praise is around the FTW edition. The Asus TOP 670 seems to be a bit better too. Not sure which would be better. I like the MSI design too, my 560ti with two fans is always quiet even under high fan control.

For the step up program you would need to get the extended warranty too if a new card were to come out in 90 days.

the msi cools much better than the ftw and slightly better than the asus directcu2 cooler. however, i agree that evga does have a better warranty. i personally have no problem with msi since a RMA depot isnt too far from where i live and that ncix usually helps out with that process.

your pick

I always buy MSI brand cards, but besides cooling, and warranties, I don't think it matters to much because I also had a Galaxy 220 that I OCed to hell from the day I got it and it finally died just last month.

Sadly that 7970 would not fit in my roswell challenger 🙁 Never tried an Amd card before. We have amd quad processors at work and the pc is always slugging along, freezing so I dunno. Hopefully the 660ti is out tomorrow. Its gonna be hard choice for me too figuring out which brand to get if I go with the 670.

Yeh that's true, maybe a HAF912 but even that you need to take out the drive cage to fit some of the larger cards. I don't like full tower cases.

The 670 FTW will fit in my Challenger so will the MSI version I think. The Challenger's card length is 11 3/8."

I will probably go for a new case next year when I get a new Mobo/processor..who knows. I've always had crappy pc's that I didn't care about replacing parts..but when you finally build a decent one, upgrading parts feels like throwing money out when it still performs fine at the moment lol.

Ah, you're right. I think I got confused from looking at a 5xx series card. Thanks.

My strategy for that is simple: put it to use. I'll work it down to another PC (my home server or my girlfriend's PC), or I'll give it to one of my brothers. You could always try to sell it, but people never want to buy old cards at a price coming close to their relative performance.

Hmm... WoW looks nice and smooth there maxxed out - but, he's also running below 2560x1440. Still, good to know that I can crank everything else up.

You are right...If I dont end up selling my 560Ti I will give it to my brother. He has some alienware pc with a core i7 3550, watercooled, with a gtx 555?? That card sucks compared to mine.

Was also thinking of changing my SSD from 128gb to 256 since I can get them on Ebay for about $170 now and the 128 models of the crucial m4 are going for around $80. I'll give the 128gb to him too.

Worst comes to worst I can put the card on Ebay and let it sit there. I've seen completed listings for my model sell from $90-160.

Crud...

I was hoping it wasn't going to be that close. My hope was that it would be near or below the 570, because then it would be an easy decision in the GTX 670's favor.

As-is, it looks like an excellent deal - except the memory bandwidth concerns me for dual boxing WoW. Yes, WoW isn't the most demanding game - but two instances of it at once might push it a bit.

You can run WoW with integrated graphics, yes; but it's less enjoyable for raiding, the tiny bit of PvP I occasionally do, etc. Still, I know what you mean.

On a side note, does anyone know if the Borderlands 2 certificates are transferrable? I've already pre-ordered it, but I know my brother would enjoy BL2. Either way I go, it would make waiting worth it.

They should be transferable. Is it through steam? Once you go to download the game, it asks for the certificate code..Batman did.

Hmm so I was suprised with the benchmars. The 670 is still better but the 660ti in some cases is close at least in some games and when overclocked.

I don't get the $300 dollar price wowing anyone though. My 560Ti can play Max payne on High at 1920x1080 without lag..not sure if its very high or high I will need to check.

This screws up my upgrade plan.

Sure, you can register the card with your brother's steam account.

The 670 and 660Ti are close looking at those scores. 670 performs better at higher resolution where the 660Ti starts to drop fps at 1920 at higher quality modes. Comparing the 560Ti to a 670 by looking at the marks, yes that is a performance upgrade (by the numbers at least not by my vision).

I'm not sure how successful the 660Ti is going to be now. It's gonna come down to the price wither or not people are going to buy it instead of a 670 or not. When your already spending that much on a card though, unless it's like $75 less, people will go for the 670 instead.

Exactly. Say there are 4 or 5 different versions each starting at 299.99 and going up to 350.00, most people will spend the extra 50 and go for a FTW 670 or Asus TOP model. Hell in that pricing scheme I may as well by a bigger case and go with the 680 just for shits.

Excellent link. I didn't know Anandtech had that comparison tool.

I actually compared http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/647?vs=598 - ie, the 660Ti vs. the 670. And it told me what I really wanted to know: At 2560x1600, you are largely still PLAYABLE with the 660Ti, but you're not hitting 60. Batman Arkham City at max settings is one of the most stark examples of this: 47 FPS on the 660Ti vs. 60 on the 670.

Given that I actually have a monitor that can support that high resolution (and, at 27", 1920x1080 may actually be notable at that resolution), I'm really leaning towards the 670.

22" is 1920x1080 right? I saw the same results, at higher resolutions, the 660Ti still can perform to make the games playable but they will benefit more from the 670 since it won't have to be strained.

Yeah - on the one hand, the MSI PE 660Ti for $310 (after $10 MIR) is really tempting. On the other hand, for $120 more, I can get the MSI PE 670.

Do I think I could buy the 660Ti and be happy today? Yes. I think it would be suitable for WoW, etc. Do I think I would be happy with the 660Ti next year? I'm not so sure. If I'm going to spend $300, $400 for some protection against obsolescence would be nice.

Having read the Anandtech review on the 660Ti, specifically the page on noise and temperature, I'm not impressed by EVGA's single-fan 'blower' design. The Tom's Review Noise/temp page makes the MSI Twin Frozrs look pretty good. Too bad there is no apples-to-apples comparison, but this does mirror articles I've seen elsewhere about the EVGA design.

I really think the Tom's conclusion page sums it up with that relative average FPS chart. The 670 is about 20% more FPS than the 660Ti for $100 more. Is that a decent tradeoff for me? That's a question to think about, but it's at least a simple, answerable one.
