The HD died in my Iomega NAS. enclosure, and I was wondering if I could just replace that with a new HD or if it needed to be something specific in order to work properly? The drive I'm replacing was a Seagate Barricuda 2TB
I have the hmnhd-TI2BK4, the Home Media Network Hard Drive cloud edition. It's a 2TB drive I'm replacing, there is only one drive, so sounds like I can replace with a larger drive so long as it physically fits?
A good NAS would allow you to just replace the drive.... and it would do the rest(rebuild the raid set)
true enough, if you are replacing a 500GB drive with a 2TB drive and the rest of the array has 500GB's, you will lose 3/4 of the space - the new drive will be formatted like the rest 500GB. you need to at least use the right size drive, performance can be crippled by a slow replacement. these need to be considered even if the device rebuilds the raid set.
